Will Tanjung Bungah residents still be getting a recreational park at 'The Sore Thumb?'
More than 10 years ago, a private developer started an illegal land reclamation off the coast of Tanjung Bungah. After 2008, YB Teh Yee Cheu had, for a few times, managed to get stop-work orders to halt the illegal activity. During state assembly sittings, YB Teh Yee Cheu had proposed for the said reclaimed land to be turned into a recreational park for public use and even received support from the State Exco. YB Phee Boon Poh officiated the site, popularly known as 'The Sore Thumb' as a public park, but the said park was never gazetted.Â
Â
In April 2015, the Penang Development Corporation designed a Request-For-Proposal (RFP) with intentions to convert 'The Sore Thumb' into a marina with supporting coastal & marine tourism facilities.
Â
Residents of Tanjung Bungah have been persistently protesting against the proposed marina and the marina project is largely sketchy with little details for the public. YB Teh has been consistently protesting together with the residents of Tanjung Bungah throughout the years and have been raising the issue in state assembly sittings.

What is known is that three companies sent in their proposals to PDC but the details of the companies were not revealed.
