Turning fifty this year, Christine Das embarks on her 4th solo exhibition, once again going back to George Town, where she was born, to exhibit a collection of works that are contemplative in nature. Entitled Conversations @ 50, the works are a visual extension of a style that has distinctly been associated with this artist. Her half century experiences amalgamated to become a virtual library from which she has carefully selected what to express.

 

Christine has decided to base her collection for this solo exhibition on  important values she sees herself embody as a human being.  As a conduit to express these values, she goes back to something that has always been been close to her heart -nature. Visually stylistic depictions of nature have become somewhat of the artist’s signature in the last decade and her flowing lines have once again transformed in her new artworks, providing a dreamy, almost fantasy-like visual feel.

 

Nature continues to be a prominent feature in her works, now expanded to include a large variety of fauna. And this is not surprising, given her strong commitment to aiding preservation efforts wherever and whenever she can. For Christine, there is a strong symbiotic connection between humans and nature, the existence of one relying on the other. But more than that, she sees much wisdom we can elicit from nature, and this is boldly articulated through her artworks for this solo exhibition.
