A Musical Night with Penang Junior Orchestra
|
In 1999, the Penang Junior Orchestra (PJO) was born under the musical outreach programme sponsored by the state government. Membership of the orchestra is open to all school students under the age of sixteen. Today, PJO is part of the Penang Symphony Society. It has over 60 young musicians aged between 6 to 16 years old. The group practice regularly during weekends at Dewan Sri Pinang. Since its formation, PJO has performed annually for the public. In 2010, PJO successfully hosted the “Melody Night” concert at Dewan Sri Pinang. Last year, PJO was invited by Tunku Zain of Negeri Sembilan to perform at Istana Seri Menanti, Negeri Sembilan.
PJO is a non-profit organisation. It has been able to continue playing its roles because of well wishers’ goodwill, token membership subscriptions and voluntary efforts by Maestro Woon Wen Kin and all fellow members. This orchestra is assisted by a committee which comprises of volunteer parents.
