The Penang state government’s commitment to gender justice and initiatives related to gender was made tangible through its allocation of RM1.5 million to the setting-up of the Penang Women’s Development Corporation in January 2012. GRB is a major project under PWDC, and the Steering group for GRB is charied by YB Chow Kon Yeow, State Exco for Local Government and Transport Planning. |
Municipal Council of Penang Island (MPPP)The Municipal Council of Penang island covers the two districts of the island (Barat Daya and Timur Laut), making up 299.65 sq. kilometres with a multi-racial population of some 735,000 people. in 2010, the estimated density was 2,372 people per square kilometre - much more densely populated that Seberang Perai. MPPP presently administers a budget income of well over RM 250 million. Their commitment to the GRB project is expressed in their allocation of RM63,000 for 2012 which has been increased to RM200,000 for 2013. |
Municipal Council of Seberang Perai (MPSP)MPSP is responsible for a geographical area of 738.41 sq km, which is the largest area of any municipal council in Malaysia. The area is divided into three districts: Seberang Perai Utara (North), Seberang Perai Tengah (central) and Seberang Perai Selatan (South). From accounting for 44.1% of Penang’s population in 1970, Seberang Perai now accounts for some 55%, around 880,000 persons. MPSP administers a budget of some RM200 million. Its commitment to the GRB project is shown in its allocation of RM200,000 from its 2012 budget, which is being maintained for 2013. |
